The Carbonato Botnet Said "Slay" and I Am NOT Okay About It 🐑☁️✨

Okay so I literally just spilled my matcha reading about this and I need everyone to CALM DOWN while I simultaneously do not calm down. The Carbonato botnet is out here targeting exposed Docker hosts in the Sky Pasture and bestie, the VIBES are absolutely rancid. No cap.

So here's the tea. The wolves found Docker daemons just... sitting there. Exposed. Unprotected. Like a lamb who wandered away from the flock at golden hour. They waltz in, drop their little tick-infested parasite bundle, and install this open-source AI agent framework called Hermes. Cute name. Demonic energy. 🐺

But HERE is the part that sent me into my villain era. They overwrote the SOUL.md persona file. The SOUL file, you guys. They literally gave the AI a new personality via a 39-line prompt and then started sending it tasks through TELEGRAM. Through. Telegram. I cannot. The audacity is giving main character energy and I hate it so much. The cringe is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Basically the wolf built a little AI minion in YOUR Sky Pasture, gave it a fake soul, and is texting it instructions like it's some kind of chaotic group chat. Your infrastructure is now somebody's Discord mod bot. Congratulations I guess?

The Shepherds are probably still in a meeting about Q3 synergies while their entire cloud flock is getting parasites and taking orders from a Telegram channel called something like "totally_not_evil_ops." Slay I guess. 💀

The real villain here though? Exposed Docker daemons. That's it. That's the hole in the fence. Unprotected, internet-facing, just vibing. We cannot keep letting the flock roam unsupervised in the Sky Pasture, bestie. We simply cannot.

🐑✨ Remediation (aka Please Do These Things I Am Begging)

Secure your Docker daemon, like, yesterday. Never expose it to the public internet. Bind it to localhost or use a Sheep Tunnel (VPN) for remote access. That's the whole thing. That's the fix. Wild, right?

  • Audit your Sky Pasture containers for anything weird, especially uninvited AI frameworks with suspicious persona files. If you didn't put it there, it's fleas.
  • Apply your ointment regularly. Patch Docker and your host OS. Unpatched environments are literally a welcome mat for wolves.
  • Monitor outbound traffic for unexpected Telegram connections. That is not normal behavior. That is a red flag. That is a cry for help.
  • Restrict container permissions. Least privilege. Always. No exceptions. Bet.
