Okay I am LOSING it right now. Like, I put down my oat milk latte for TWO SECONDS and I come back to find out that the Clop ransomware gang, you know, PROFESSIONAL CRIMINALS, got their leak site absolutely bodied by ShinyHunters because they forgot to shear their Grav CMS. 😭

I cannot. I genuinely cannot.

So here's the tea: Clop had this whole dramatic Tor leak site where they'd post stolen data and feel very scary and intimidating. Very "fear us, we are wolves." Except they were running an UNPATCHED content management system with a path traversal hole in the fence so gaping that another coyote just... walked right through it. Unauthenticated. No password. No effort. Just vibes and a known vulnerability. #Embarrassing

ShinyHunters defaced the whole thing. Defaced it! Like leaving glitter on someone's car. The audacity, the drama, the CHAOS. I am obsessed with this storyline, no cap.

And now Clop has had to pack up their whole operation and slink off to a new Tor address like a flock that got spooked by a plastic bag. The Shepherds over at Clop HQ had one job. ONE. Apply the ointment. Click the update button. It's literally free. 💀

The fleas got the fleas, bestie. The parasites got parasitized. This is what we in the industry call "extremely funny."

Look, I spend every single day begging the Flock to patch their systems, dip their servers, keep their software updated, and here we have a literal ransomware operation that couldn't be bothered. 🐑✨ Remediation: Don't Be Clop, Bestie

  • Shear your CMS regularly. Grav, WordPress, whatever you're running, update it. Set a calendar reminder. Tattoo it on your arm. I don't care. Just do it.
  • Check for unauthenticated path traversal flaws in anything public-facing. If a random coyote can browse your file system without logging in, that is a cry for help.
  • Run vulnerability scans on your OWN infrastructure. Yes, even if you are a criminal enterprise apparently. Basic hygiene, people.
  • Monitor your Tor hidden services if you are, uh, running one for whatever reason. No judgment. (Judgment.)
