Bestie Bit The Hand That Fed Him And We Are NOT Okay 😤🐑

Okay so I was literally just vibing in the Sky Pasture this morning, sipping my matcha, when THIS dropped into my feed and I actually audibly gasped. Like, put down the oat milk, we need to TALK.

A data analyst contractor at a D.C. tech company allegedly decided that his day job was not giving him enough slay, so he cooked up a $2.5 million extortion scheme. Against the company. That was actively paying him. While he was still on their roster. No cap, the audacity is giving main character energy and I am SICK about it.

This wolf was not some outside coyote lurking at the fence line. He was already IN the pasture. Badge, access, the whole fit. He had his hooves on the data, knew exactly where the good grain was stored, and decided to just... take it. And then send a bill. A $2.5 million bill. Sir.

The cringe factor here is genuinely off the charts. Most threat actors at least have the decency to be external. This is your coworker. This is the guy who probably complained about the coffee in the break room with you. Absolutely foul behavior, zero stars, do not recommend.

He was found guilty, so justice has been served and the flock can breathe, but honestly? The damage to the vibes is irreversible for me personally.

The real villain in this story is the insider threat problem that the Shepherds keep refusing to take seriously. They're out here worrying about holes in the fence when the wolf already has a desk and a Slack account. Make it make sense!!

🛡️ Remediation (Grace's Vibe Check Edition)

Listen up, Shepherds, because I will not be repeating myself:

Least Privilege Access, bestie. Your contractors do NOT need access to the whole pasture. Give them the one field they need and LOCK the rest. This is not a debate.

Monitor your insider activity. Behavioral analytics tools exist. Use them. A lamb suddenly downloading terabytes of data at 2am is a RED FLAG, not a quirky personality trait.

Offboarding is a security event. The second a contractor relationship ends, revoke everything. Keys, credentials, Sky Pasture access, all of it. Immediately. Like, before the goodbye Slack message is even sent.

Segment your data. Not everyone needs everything. Siloing sensitive data means one rogue lamb cannot burn down the entire farm.

The threat was inside the house and the house was not prepared. We have to do better, no cap. 🐑🔥

Stay suspicious of everyone, including your contractors, Grace out 💅
